Inspired by the changing seasons, Squash Blossom features a fall color palette using acrylic paint. I added the geometric pattern in the background to create more depth and layers without overwhelming Rovandio’s unique, minimalistic brushstrokes. This is the first painting I incorporated a metallic bronze paint that really adds warmth and shine to the piece.

I named this piece Squash Flower because the beautiful design looks like an abstract flower that you would see on a squash or zucchini in the garden. When I lived in Maine we had a very large garden including squash and other edible flowers such as nosturtiums. Look up squash blossom online and hopefully you will see the resemblance to Rovandio’s painting.

If someone had told me at that young age I would be painting with horses I think I would have been speechless. One of my driving motivations is to impress the inner child within me. I try to do things that would blow her mind, inspire her to reach for her dreams, no matter how many obstacles were in her path.
